Special Education

In the Bolivar-Richburg Central School District, it is our belief that all special needs students should be educated in the least restrictive environment.  We offer support for our special needs students, based on their individual needs, in order for each student to meet with academic success.

All special needs students complete a self-advocacy program to strengthen their independent skills upon graduating from Bolivar-Richburg Central School.  Students who are 15 years of age and older participate in a Transition Planning Program, which enables the student to identify goals that they want to achieve when leaving their program through the Bolivar-Richburg Central School District.  The Transition Planning Program is reviewed each year at the student’s annual Committee of Special Education (CSE) meeting.  The program will consist of a coordinated set of activities that are based on an individual student’s needs, taking into account the student’s preferences and interests.

The education of special needs students is a team effort in which the parents and school district work together to assist each student in meeting with success.
